Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Darius Anthony was bitten early by the industry bug. After studying photography in college he worked as a photo assistant for Rock and Roll impresario, photographer Norman Seeff at his infamous Sunset Boulevard studio, adjacent to the notorious Chateau Marmont.
Working with Seeff allowed Darius to gain critical lighting and people skills that would prove invaluable later in his career. While assisting, he worked with many top names in the business, including such notables as John Belushi, Tina Turner, Jane Fonda, Rod Stewart, Blondie, Michael Jackson, The Rolling Stones, and hundreds of other top-notch artists.
After several lean years, Darius eventually became an award-winning commercial photographer in his own right, lensing over 70 album covers and dozens of celebrities, including George Jones, Jeff Healey, Herb Alpert, Whoopi Goldberg, Phylicia Rashad, Jim Carrey, Damon Wayans, and JFK, Jr., to name a few.
Darius was the founding partner of a boutique design and marketing firm called Public Eye, with partner Mac James. Public Eye's first job, designed by Mac, was the “Thriller” logo for Michael Jackson's best-selling album. Thereafter, the company focused primarily on producing One-Sheets for various Hollywood studios, including U2's "Rattle and Hum" for Paramount Pictures.
Before long, Darius was tapped by Castle Rock to be the first unit photographer on a new sitcom for NBC titled “Seinfeld Chronicles.” Darius likes to joke the show got rid of him, eventually changed its name, and went on to become one of the biggest shows in television history. Darius' short-lived time with the show prepared him to take over the reigns in the same capacity on a groundbreaking new Fox hit called, “In Living Color,” a show that launched the careers of many of Hollywood's top performers.
Soon after, Darius began directing underground hip-hop music videos for a cadre of artists all over the country, including the iconic Def Jef hit, “Voice of a New Generation.”
Ultimately, Darius' love of music and hip-hop motivated him to take his visual style and storytelling talents to New York City, where he began producing and directing music videos, working with several hip-hop luminaries including, Snoop Dogg, Master P., Busta Rhymes, and members of Wu-Tang Clan.
It was during this time he began writing treatments and screenplays, in addition to directing commercials, documentaries, live performances, and national television segments. One such project was “World Voice” a star studded Vatican sanctioned documentary, celebrating global peace and harmony, utilizing poetry written by the late Pope John Paul II.
The film was produced over a two-year period throughout America, Italy, and Mexico. Darius was the director and producer of the project that included the likes of James Earl Jones, Brittany Spears, Aerosmith, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Danny Glover, Dennis Frantz, Faith Evans, and Tim McGraw, to name a few.
Darius has written several screenplays and worked on various film projects around the globe. Most recently, he wrote and directed, “Devil's Punchbowl,” co-produced by EMMY Award winning editor, producer and business partner, Michael D. Schultz. The film garnered well-deserved attention at the Los Angeles International Film Festival, prompting the pair to form their production company, Controlled Content.
Together, Darius and Michael, have dedicated the past several years acquiring, writing, creating, and developing, television and film projects, including “Endangered” currently in development and executive produced by David Mamet.
Darius' creative approach is simple: create compelling visual images, inspirational performances, and dazzling dialogue with lasting entertainment value.
